Zoonosis is another name for a zoonotic disease. This type of disease passes from an animal or insect to a human. Some don’t make the animal sick but will sicken a human. Zoonotic diseases are infectious diseases that can pass from animals to humans. Seventy-five per cent of new human diseases are zoonotic. Some zoonotic diseases, such as Hydatids, Anthrax, Hendra virus infection, Avian influenza or Rabies can be very serious in humans and may cause fatalities.

Zoonoses, infections transmitted between animals and humans, are thought to be the most common infections in humans, and viral zoonoses are among the most important emerging infectious diseases. Understanding of transmission of zoonoses often requires knowledge of arthropod vectors, including species and geographic distribution, but many Cited by: 3. The occurrence of a pathogen in both people and animals does not always mean it is a significant zoonosis. Some diseases are acquired from the environment, and transmission between animal or human hosts is either absent, or occurs very rarely and under unusual conditions.   Acha PN, Szyfres B () Zoonoses and communicable diseases common to man, 2nd edn. Ian Lipkin, in Mandell, Douglas, and Bennett's Principles and Practice of Infectious Diseases (Eighth Edition), Zoonoses, derived from the Greek words for animal, zoo, and the suffix modification indicating a state or condition, sis, are infectious diseases of humans that originate in animals.

Infectious diseases that originate in humans and move into other animals are commonly.Endemic and Epidemic Zoonoses. Zoonoses are diseases transmissible between animals (domestic and wildlife) and humans. Around 60% of all human diseases and around 75% of emerging infectious diseases are zoonotic (Taylor et al., ; Woolhouse and Gowtage-Sequeria, ).

In aggregate, zoonoses have high impacts on human health, livelihoods.
